Finally a change!

In 1961, we are shown a photo of the hose and chemical wagon of the fire department.



In 1964, the image has been changed to show a "Pretty Disneyland Tour Guide" who is pointing out the highlights of Main Street as part of a journey through the Magic Kingdom.

April 8 - Main Street USA

Another page that remained the same. This series is not off to a promising start, though stuff does change later on in the book.

Again, exactly the same.

April 6 - A Welcome from Walt Disney

The back cover of the guide shows some updated attractions:

Main Street lost the Shooting Gallery, and now has the Penny Arcade.

Tomorrowland remained the same.

In Fantasyland, the Mickey Mouse Club Theatre changed it's name to the Fantasyland Theatre.

Nothing changed in Frontierland.

Adventureland had the most change in the Park, adding the Swiss Family Treet House, the Tiki Room, and a Big Game Gallery, which is an "exciting shooting gallery with an African motif."

By the way, many April Fool's Day pranks are lacking a certain wit, but Google has done a wonderful job, as always. I cannot wait to search in the future.

Also, if you feel forced to write a lame post, that, coupled with an lame image, can only be an April Fool's joke, you don't need to identify it as such.

Onto the 1964 Disneyland Guide. Because this is only three years removed from the last book I posted, and they share many of the same images, I am going to do a comparison between the two books. This will not be the most in-depth look at the parks, but still...

Well, not really a theme, but Capt. Jack is featured on the front. Click on the pictures to see them larger, as always.

March 28 - Worst General Tso's Chicken EVER

That photo, taken sitting in the Mexican pavilion waiting for Illuminations to began, is the worst food I have ever eaten on Disney property. The meal, called General Tso's Chicken on the menu at the Chinese quick service spot, is anything but. As you can see, it is shaped chicken nuggets, covered in a sticky orange sauce, on top of white rice.

I have eaten General Tso's Chicken across this country, from the chain restaurants like Panda, to buffets in the middle of Virginia, and right down the road from my house at Ho Wah. I have seen dark meat, white meat, freshly deep fried, and cold lumps sitting under heat lamps. I have eat it for lunch, dinner, and cold leftovers for breakfast. Nothing has been as terrible as this.

When I get back to Epcot, I will order the same meal, because I must know if this day was an oddity, if the kitchen somehow ran out of the usual dish and substituted this for tourists who would not care. Or is this the usual fare, served day in and day out, again to tourist who do not care.
